Parents visa

How to Apply for Australian Parent Visas

If you are an Australian and wish to apply for a permanent visa for your parent, there are many important things to consider. The Department provides a range of different visa options for parents and some can take decades to process and others can cost tens of thousands of dollars in government fees. These are broken up into three main categories:

  • Contributory parent visas – which carry a significant government fee and can also be applied for in two stages (temporary and permanent);
  • Non-Contributory Visas – which carry a much smaller government fee but extensive processing times (in some cases over 30 years)
  • Aged-Parent Visas – which are appropriate for parents that have exceeded a certain age

It is important that you receive tailored advice regarding the different parent visa categories to ensure the significant investment you are about to make is appropriate for you and your families needs.
